Hyundai AMT Equipped Engines Coming To India By 2018
Hyundai Motors India officials have confirmed that several of their vehicles will sport an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) option by 2018. The information is confirmed by Young Key Koo, Managing Director, Hyundai Motors India.
So far, it is unclear which models will get the all-new Hyundai AMT option. It is our opinion that the Korean-based automobile manufacturer will provide the AMT option to models that are selling well in the country. The Grand i10, Elite i20, and i20 Active models could be the first models that get AMT.
Conventional Automatic Transmissions or AT are very expensive. AMT system offers a simple and cost-effective solution for those who do not like changing gears and using the clutch pedal. Hyundai Motors too will be taking the AMT route in India as a viable option.
Magneti Marelli is the largest manufacturer of AMT systems. They recently commenced operation at their facility in Manesar. Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors use Magneti Marelli AMT system in several of their vehicles without disrupting pricing too much.
It is unclear if Hyundai Motors will develop their very own AMT system or source it out. There is a high possibility that the Korean-based manufacturer will use the Magneti Marelli AMT. Hyundai's compact SUV which will be launched in 2019 could also get the AMT option.
