Honda WR-V Crossover SUV India Launch Slated For Mid-2017
The new crossover SUV from Honda, the WR-V is expected to be launched in the Indian market by mid-2017
Japanese car manufacturer Honda's latest crossover SUV, the WR-V made its debut at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show. It is expected to hit the Indian shores by 2017.
According to reports, Honda has already commenced testing the crossover SUV at its production plant in India. The India launch is expected to happen by mid-2017.
The WR-V is a crossover SUV which is based on the Jazz platform and it shares the design cues from its hatchback sibling. But still, the mini SUV manages to sport aggressive stance.
The front end of the crossover SUV features thick chrome grille similar to the Honda City, the front bumper is designed aggressively to add to its SUV tagline. The body cladding runs on the wheel arches and extends to doors.
The Honda WR-V is developed under the leadership of Brazilian team. The WR-V stands for Winsome Runabout Vehicle.The crossover SUV also features high ground clearance to tackle rough surfaces.
The India-spec WR-V is expected to be powered by the same engine which does the duty on the Jazz hatchback. It draws power from a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine which produces 90bhp and 110Nm of torque.
The diesel variant is powered by 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine which churns out 100bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. The globally sold WR-V is powered by 1.5-litre Flex engine with five-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
Honda WR-V is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakhs (on-road) in the Indian market. When launched the crossover SUV will go head on against the likes of Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
