Honda Cars India has confirmed that the all-new BR-V compact SUV will be launched on May 6, 2016. The Japanese-based automobile manufacturer will be introducing the BR-V with an optional petrol and diesel engine for the Indian market.
Powering the petrol engine is 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine from Honda. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual, as well as an optional CVT gearbox with paddle shifters. Honda engineers have tuned the engine to produce 117.37bhp and 145Nm of peak torque output.
Unfortunately, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine will only be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and no automatic transmission will be on offer. The diesel engine will produce 98.63bhp and 200Nm of peak torque output.
The BR-V compact SUV was showcased for the very first time at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Currently, Honda Cars has already been selling in several international markets. Honda will be using the same engine that powers its Honda City sedan in India and the BR-V is based on their Brio platform.
Once the BR-V is launched in India, it will take on the likes of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra's TUV3OO model. Honda is expected to price the compact SUV between Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh ex-showroom. Stay tuned for more updates from the launch proceedings.
