Government To Set Up A Committee To Regulate Taxi Providers
As per the direction of Delhi High Court, Transport Ministry is setting up a high level committee to regulate taxi operators in the country. The committee will look into issues such as, existing permits and surge pricing, by app-based taxi providers, such as Ola and Uber.
Delhi High Court has directed to form a committee, and has given August 22 as a deadline, after which taxi providers cannot charge more rate than which the government has fixed.
The 12 member panel will be led by, road transport and highway secretary, Sanjya Mitra, who will also look into issue of surge pricing by app based taxi operators and other taxi providers.
An official from road transport and highway ministry said, "A committee has been constituted to examine all relevant issues related to existing permits given to black/yellow taxis, radio taxis, aggregators etc."
