We had earlier reported that the Indian Railways will make battery operated vehicles available at railway stations for those suffering from disabilities to get around the station with ease. Now, those battery operated vehicles can be booked by an app, which will soon be launched by the government.
The service will be based on a first come, first serve basis. Senior citizens, pregnant women, and those suffering from disabilities will be given preference.
Apart from booking the battery operated vehicle through an app, customers can also book them through the IRCTC e-ticketing website and 139.
The Ministry has written to the zonal railways asking them to invite tenders for battery operated vehicles at railway stations. As per the instructions, every railway station will have a dedicated number displayed and so will the website.
Based on bookings, an SMS will be sent to the passenger and to the service provider, along with the amount chargeable. The service provider will ensure the battery operated vehicle will be at the station and platform mentioned by the customer, and charges for the service will be collected directly from the customer.
Also, the battery vehicle service provider will be solely responsible for operation and maintenance of these vehicles, while the railways will provide the charging points.
