Ford EcoSport Registers High Sales After Price Drop
The Ford EcoSport was the first of its kind when launched in India a few years ago. The compact, sub-4 metre SUV registered good sales initially, but as days past, competition became intense as other carmakers came up with compact SUVs.
One such competitor was the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and looking at the potential threat, Ford slashed prices of the EcoSport by over Rs. 1 lakh. The drop in prices has definitely helped Ford as the sub-4 metre SUV has seen a rise in sales.
In March 2016, Ford sold 4,456 units. The last similar recording was achieved back in October 2014 when Ford sold 4,528 units of the EcoSport. The EcoSport also had a facelift in the recent past, and also a minor tweak to its diesel engine.
Powering the EcoSport is a choice of three engines, a 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 110bhp, a 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine petrol that develops 124bhp, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that develops 99bhp. The EcoSport is sold with an optional automatic gearbox as well.
