Looks like Ford doesn't want to be left behind in the madness caused by Tesla's launch of the Model 3.
The blue oval brand's CEO Mark Fields has stated that his company is developing an electric vehicle that can cover 322 kilometers on a single charge.
Ford currently offers quite a few hybrid vehicles around the world as well as an all electric version of the Focus. However, the hybrids like the Fusion and C-Max can barely run 32 kilometers on electric power alone while the Fusion has range of around 122 kilometers which Ford will soon be extending to 160 kilometers.
According to Automotive News, the new car could be called the Model E , a name that Ford has a pending trademark application on.
Automotive News also reports that new Model E will be available as a traditional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and a pure electric vehicle, according to research firm AutoForecast Solutions.
So is the Model E going to help Ford beat the Tesla Model 3? We'll have to wait and find out. But one thing is for sure Elon Musk will be seething when the Ford Model E comes out as that was the original name for the Model 3.
