Ferrari's New J50 Is The Ultimate Targa Top That You Can Never Afford
The Targa roof will be constructed in two-piece carbon and no fancy folding roof nonsense.
Ever thought the LaFerrari Aperta was as crazy as it could get? Boom! Ferrari has just announced the J50, and it's way wilder than the Aperta.
With just ten examples to be made, Ferrari is making the car to mark it's 50 years in Japan. Even though the cost of the vehicle has not been revealed, the fact that J50 will cost a fortune can be an easy guess.
Underneath the J50 is a Ferrari 488 Spider, with a tuned-up, 3.9-litre, turbo V8, producing 681 bhp. We can also expect an incremental gain over the 488's 3.0sec 0-100 km/h time, and top speed.
The styling on the car is a whole lot more aggressive than the standard 488 spider, and with the "Targa" roof and the black strip along the doors, the J50 can be called a modern day Ferrari F50.
Even the rear design with the quad-taillights resembles the F50 and F40. The front bumper has been redesigned to gulp more air while the windscreen is quite lower to direct air over the rear wing.
A rear diffuser featuring what Ferrari calls an "extractor shape", has been inspired by the jet engine afterburners. Too bad the first pictures of the J50 doesn't reveal the diffuser design.
Inside, the J50 will feature a hugging sports bucket seats in red and black detailing. The Targa roof will be constructed in two-piece carbon and no fancy folding roof nonsense.
