Ferrari Confirms Kimi Raikkonen Will Race In Formula 2017 Championship
Rumours have been doing the rounds that Scuderia Ferrari would be axing Kimi Raikkonen. Now, Raikkonen and Ferrari have announced that they would compete together for at least one more year. The Finnish driver has a contract that will see him with Ferrari for the 2017 season.
The announcement was made by Scuderia Ferrari prior to the British Grand Prix. Raikkonen is pleased that the deal has been struck and now he can focus once again on racing. So far, Kimi Raikkonen has secured four podium finishes in the 2016 Formula One Championship.
Sebastian Vettel has praised teammate Kimi Raikkonen, as there is no ego clash between the two. Currently, Raikkonen and Vettel are equal in terms of points in the 2016 Championship with 96 points. Adding a new teammate could be more complicated and could have hampered the evolution of Scuderia Ferrari.
Previously, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz Junior were expected replacements for Kimi Raikkonen. Carlos Sainz Junior has signed with Toro Rosso for one more year, while Sergio Perez is undecided whether he will continue racing with Force India or not.
Kimi Raikkonen has won his sole Formula One Championship with Scuderia Ferrari in 2007. He joined the Lotus F1 Team in 2012 and was extremely successful, prior to moving back to Ferrari in 2014. The Finnish driver last won a Grand Prix back in 2013.
