Fernando Alonso Confirms Racing With McLaren Till 2017

Written By:

Fernando Alonso had a disastrous last day of pre-season testing in Barcelona. The Spaniard could only manage to do three laps. Alonso over the week was speculated to leave both McLaren-Honda and Formula One.

Alonso has now confirmed that he will not be leaving McLaren-Honda till his contract ends by the 2017 season. The Spaniard will make a decision after analysing the 2016 and 2017 Formula One season. Post his contract ending with McLaren no future plans have been planned out.

The 2015 Formula One season was disastrous for McLaren-Honda, as they finished ninth out of ten teams. Both Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso suffered various mechanical and reliability issues with their vehicles.

Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso have affirmed that the 2016 McLaren race project is a step-up from last year. Honda has hired new engineers to improve power delivery of their engine unit. The team is expecting to be on term with at least the mid-runners during 2016.

McLaren-Honda is sure that Mercedes will still be the team to beat during the 2016 Championship. Scuderia Ferrari and Renault have made significant power updates, which will provide an interesting season. Spectators want more overtakes and closer racing, which was missing over the past few years.
