Formula One’s Halo Cockpit Need More Work — Fernando Alonso
McLaren
Honda
Formula
One
team
driver
Fernando
Alonso
stated
that
the
new
Halo
cockpit
protection
system
needs
more
work
before
it
can
be
implemented
in
Formula
One.
His
main
concern
is
about
the
problems
faced
in
getting
in
and
out
of
the
car.
Spanish driver Alonso and Mercedes team pilot Lewis Hamilton tested the Halo cockpit for the very first time at practise session of Singapore Grand Prix on Friday. Alonso stated that although visibility will be hampered by this device, but drivers will get used to this. But getting in and out of the car will pose a serious issue.
But on the other side Hamilton who was against this new concept, said that he would race with the car fitted with Halo. Apart from getting in and out of the car, he did not find any difficulties driving with the Halo cockpit.
But according to Alonso there is still more work needed to be done to this new cockpit, specially on the extraction of the driver in case of any incidents. And also mechanics find it pretty hard to fasten the seat belts.
