The trio of automakers have appealed against the Supreme Court's December 16, 2015 order which banned the sale of cars powered by diesel engines with a dispacement of over 2,000cc.

The SC had come out with the ban in a bid to curb the growing pollution levels in the country's capital as well as its satellite towns. The apex court had been scathing in its criticisms of the carmakers when it passed the ban stating ""People's life is at stake and you are interested in selling cars."
