Datsun Redi-Go Could Launch In India By Next Month
Datsun India had showcased it Redi-Go compact hatchback in its concept form at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi. A production ready model was expected to make its presence felt at the recently concluded motor show in India. Now there seems to be a possibility of the Redi-Go launching by April 2016.
Recently, Renault-Nissan Alliance announced an increase in production from their Chennai facility. The manufacturer also revealed that the move was made to gear up production of Datsun's third model in the Indian market. At this moment, Datsun India offers Go and Go+ models.
Under the hood of the Redi-Go will be a 0.8-litre (800cc), three-cylinder, petrol engine. The engine will produce 53bhp and 72 Nm of peak torque and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Datsun Redi-Go will be sharing its engine with the Renault Kwid, which is already available.
So far, the interior design of the Redi-Go has not been revealed by Datsun. Expect similar styling and equipment as seen in the Go and Go+ models. The compact hatchback will be built keeping in mind a particular cost, so we do expect a simple and not a roomy cabin.
In terms of competition, the Datsun Redi-Go will have to compete with several other models in India. Maruti Suzuki's Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, Tata Nano, and Renault Kwid will provide tough competition. The Redi-Go will have the advantage of pricing and we expect the base variant to cost between Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh ex-showroom.
