Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) will be exporting fully-equipped Mercedes-Benz school buses to the Gulf Co-operation Council ( GCC) and other Middle East countries commencing from November.

Head of Daimler Buses India, Markus Villinger said that 9-tonne buses manufactured at Oragadam plant near Chennai have more than 90 percent of indigenisation level. From last 18 months, DICV have been exporting chassis materials to Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

But this is the very first-time DICV will be exporting fully built buses to Dubai, Jordan, and Oman, it also plans to introduce buses with the 16-tonne platform. Earlier Daimler revealed a semi-autonomous city bus, e-truck and vision van to worldwide media.

Member of Daimler AG Board, Wolfgang Bernhard said that the electric van will hit the market by the year 2018 and city buses by 2020. By 2030 around 70 percent of the matured automobile market will be driven by electric vehicles.
