Now Is The Time For Electric Trucks — Daimler Trucks Chief
Daimler Trucks Chief Wolfgang Bernhard has expressed to Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung that this is the perfect time for electric trucks. He said, "If you start too soon, you lose a pile, if you come too late, you lose the market."
In July, Daimler revealed an electric truck that has the capacity to carry 25 tons and would be production ready, start next decade. At the moment, batteries are still too expensive said Bernhard, and he expects the price to drop soon.
Bernhard claimed that Daimler was watching Tesla's move to build electric trucks with interest, but was not concerned. He told the newspaper, "We've been running a trucks business for 120 years. We know what to do."
He expressed ignorance of Deutsche Post to build its own electric vans saying the company is serving a narrow market and Daimler has got a better long term proposition.
