Renault Kwid: DriveSpark Car Of The Year 2016
2015 has seen a lot of new car launches. Mercedes-Benz launched 15 cars, Audi, BMW, Volvo, and even Ferrari launched new vehicles in India. But the most important segment is the entry-level hatchback category, which caters to masses.
In this segment, there is tough competition from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors. Renault entered this segment with the Kwid, keeping one thing in mind, which is to lead this segment and the carmaker is doing pretty well.
Launched on 24 September 2015, the Kwid was quick to impress customers. The car immediately received overwhelming response and racked up bookings. The waiting period went up and Renault has even taken steps to ramp up production.

In a matter of only 10 days since its launch, the Renault Kwid received 25,000 bookings, and sold over 5,000 units in 30 days from launch. So does this make the Renault Kwid a winner? Yes it does; the Renault Kwid is DriveSpark's pick as the car of the year 2016.
The Renault Kwid is powered by a 799cc, liquid-cooled, inline, three cylinder engine that develops 53bhp and 72Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the car returns a mileage of 25km/l.
For a car in this price bracket (Rs. 2.5 to 4 lakh), the Kwid is a very good looking car and is also very well equipped. The Renault Kwid comes with a 2-DIN system with navigation, power windows, boot space of 300-litres (expandable up to 1115-litres), a fully digital instrument console, and a ground clearance of 180mm.
