Video: Is This The First BMW i8 Spyder Prototype?

BMW's CEO, Harald Krueger, had earlier teased its plan for building an i8 Spyder by 2018. Now, someone has spotted what seems to be the first ever prototype of the car.

Spotted doing laps on the Nurburgring, the test mule in the video does seem to be the open top i8. The roof cutouts were masked with tape and some edges on both the roof and the support beams were visible too.

We're still not sure about what kind of folding roof will be featured on the car, but from the looks of it, we think the driver will have to open/close it manually.

As of now, we think the i8 Spyder and coupe will share the same 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine mated with an electric motor for a combined power level of 362bhp and 570Nm of torque.
