BMW i8: The Best Selling Hybrid Sports Car In The World
The plug-in hybrid sports car from the German manufacturer, BMW, has raced past its previous sales compared to other hybrids.
The company sold 5,456 units in 2015, this is exceeding the sales of all other hybrid sports car put together.
"The success of the BMW i8 speaks for itself," said Ian Robertson, BMW AG Board Member for Sales and Marketing. "It is already the world's most successful hybrid sports car and has comfortably exceeded our own expectations. I can think of no better illustration of the relevance of our young BMW i brand."
The three-cylinder turbocharged engine with an electric drive system, is a cynosure of motoring enthusiast. BMW has powered the super looking hybrid with 1.5litre engine that pushes out a massive 357bhp and the electric motor adds 129bhp.
The car can 0 - 60km/h in 4.5 seconds only on the electric motor with a top speed of 120km/h.
All of this power drives the rear wheel through a 6-speed automatic transmission box, and the electric motor has a two-stage automatic transmission.
BMW will add further to its killer looks with exclusive special-edition models to be unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show - the new BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition paint finish with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.
The colour is complemented by BMW W-spoke 470 light-alloy wheels painted in Orbit Grey metallic with hubs painted in Aluminium matt, and the edition will be available for a limited period.
Inside the special-edition BMW i8, there will be a red double-stitching, and high-grade carbon fibre with ceramic to provide indications that of an exceptional sporting character.
The car is priced at Rs. 2.29 crores ex-showroom (Delhi).
