BMW Ahead Of Audi; Not Enough To Beat Mercedes-Benz
The Munich-based German car manufacturer, BMW booked strong global sales in May, but its main competitor, Mercedes-Benz continues to lead the race and in the hunt for the luxury car crown for the first time in a decade.
BMW said they sold 198354 vehicles in May, a 5.3% jump compared to May 2015, the sales mainly rose in the European market with 11.9% growth, while sales in Asia including the Indian market rose 6.3% and this is amid broader demand from the Chinese market.

The numbers were not so great in the Americas and driven by a drop in sales by 8.8% in the U.S. Mercedes-Benz fared better with just 1% decline in the U.S. Globally, Merc sold 170,625 units, which is a record for the luxury car maker in the month of May.

Mercedes-Benz mainly saw exponential growth in the Chinese market, where sales rose a massive 39%. Mercedes-Benz bettered Audi in terms of sales last year and now they are threatening BMW and by the looks of it, they are in the race for the leading luxury car manufacturer in the world.

BMW has sold 797,457 units till date, Mercedes on the other hand, has sold 818,175 units in the five months of 2016. BMW has been the global leader from 2005 and Mercedes-Benz is sniffing at the crown for this year.
In India, Mercedes-Benz leads the pack ahead of Audi and BMW at the third position. Audi India is close on the heels of Mercedes-Benz and the race is neck to neck, BMW, on the other hand, is slightly behind the reckoning.
