An Amazonian Revolution — BMW To Change The Way You Interact With Your Car

German carmaker BMW is set to revolutionize the way its customers connect with their Ultimate Driving Machines.

An update to BMW's Connected App will enable support for Amazon Echo as well Amazon's personal Assistant Alexa, enabling BMW owners to talk to their cars and issue simple commands.

The BMW Connected app currently focuses on journey management for the vehicle, helping simplify the day-to-day planning of your driving routes and appointments. The app can scan your device's calendar and address book, calculate the drive time to an appointment based on your route and real-time traffic data, and then sync the data to the car.

However, with Amazon entering the picture, the Connected app will help owners control their cars in a way that hasn't been seen before on a BMW. With the update, owners will be able to issue simple commands through Amazon Echo, like asking the car to open or shut the doors while Alexa will kee a track of your car's vital stats like fuel levels for you.

BMW's Connected app is now available on iOS devices, with the Alexa and Echo update set to arrive later this year. BMW has not issued any updates about the Android app.
