The new BMW 5 Series design is highly inspired by the sixth-gen BMW 7 Series introduced in 2015. The new model has 4,935 mm length, 1,868 mm width and 1,466 mm. The new model is also 5 mm longer, 6mm wider and 2 mm taller when compared to the outgoing model.
The vehicle is based on the automaker's CLAR platform. It also has reduced a weight of 100 kilogrammes when compared to the current model, thanks to the increased usage of aluminium and high-strength steels.
Engine models include 2.0-litre petrol unit for 530i/530i xDrive, 3.0-litre petrol unit for 540i/540i xDrive, 2.0-litre diesel unit for 520d/520d xDrive and 3.0-litre diesel unit for 530d/530d xDrive, available with 6-speed manual for 520d and 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 530e iPerformance has a 2.0-litre petrol-electric plug-in hybrid system and the M550i xDrive gets a 4.4-litre V8 petrol unit - both mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
BMW 5 Series is equipped with features like Adaptive LED Headlight with BMW Selective Beam, Park Assist, Remote Parking, Integral Active Steering, latest-gen BMW head up Display, iDrive infotainment system with a 10.25-inch high-resolution display, an iDrive controller with gesture control and Remote 3D View. The 5 Series is the world's first car to offer wireless Apple CarPlay.
