BMTC To Introduce Electric Bus — Each Bus Costs A Whopping 2.7 Crore!
BMTC has already approved the introduction of electric buses in Bengaluru and 150 buses will be introduced in the city. But the cost of each electric bus has raised everyone's eyebrows.
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation had proposed a new project of implementing electric buses in the city back in February 2014, and the trial run of the electric bus was also done.
After almost two years the electric bus proposal got approved and BMTC will introduce a fleet of 150 electric buses in the city. With this Bengaluru will become the first city in India to use the electric buses for transportation.
But the cost of this electric bus will blow your mind. Yes, each electric bus will cost Rs 2.7 crore. This has raised the eyebrows of many.
According to the experts, this much amount of money for a single bus is exorbitant as the current market rate for an electric bus will not exceed more than Rs 1.5 crore.
These electric buses will also get the benefit of FAME scheme from the Indian government, the proposal to purchase 150 such electric buses has been approved by BMTC board of directors.
This move from BMTC to introduce electric buses is a welcome step as the pollution in the city is going out of hands and the trial runs were also conducted back in 2014. Although BMTC has not officially declared the amount of each bus.
But according to experts in the transportation department, these electric buses can be purchased at a lower cost if the government does due diligence and negotiates with manufacturers.
