Top 10 Selling Cars In India During March 2016: Kwid Beats Hyundai
March 2016 has ended with good news for some carmakers and bad news for a few. Good news is for Renault as the carmaker's most affordable offering in India has surpassed established carmakers in India. Bad new comes for Hyundai since Renault has beat not one, but two of its best selling models.
So where does the Renault Kwid stand in terms of car sales during March 2016? Let's find out.
10. Honda City
In spite of offering many models, the City remains to be the best seller for Honda in India. Honda sold 5,662 units of the City sedan during March 2016, which is quite low. One of the strongest selling factors of the City is its petrol engine, and the new diesel engine is also helping the Japanese carmaker sell volumes.
9. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Taking the ninth place is the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the second product from Maruti to be sold under the Nexa brand, after the S-Cross. Maruti managed to sell 6,236 units of the Baleno hatchback during March 2016. Sales numbers is pretty decent keeping in mind the negative reviews Nexa dealerships have got.
8. Hyundai Elite i20
The Hyundai Elite i20 takes the eighth spot, having sold 8,713 units during March 2016. The Elite i20 has seen drop in sales compared to the same time last year, when the Korean carmaker sold 10,415 units. Sales has taken a hit and Hyundai will work hard to beat competitors in the segment.
7. Maruti Suzuki Celerio
In the seventh place comes the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, which has sold 8,859 units during March 2016. The Celerio was at the bottom of the list during the same time last year, having sold just 5.074 units. The introduction of a diesel engine has helped the Celerio sell, but competition is still tough.
6. Hyundai Grand i10
Taking the sixth place is Hyundai's best seller in India, the Grand i10, having sold 9,544 units. The Grand i10 has seen increase in sales, since the carmaker sold 8,856 units during March 2015. Also, since Tata has launched the new Tiago, sales could have further effect since the Tiago is in direct competition with the Hyundai Grand i10.
5. Renault Kwid
The Renault Kwid, aka the small car killer has steadily been moving up the ladder in sales. During March 2016, Renault sold 9,743 units of the Kwid, slowly inching forward towards the top of the list. It will only be a matter of time until Kwid takes the top spot in sales.
4. Maruti Suzuki Swift
At number four is the popular Swift hatchback from Maruti Suzuki. The carmaker sold 14,524 units during March 2016, which is less compared to 16,722 units Maruti sold back in March 2015.
3. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
In number three comes the Wagon R, having sold 14,577 units in March 2016. Compared to last year, the Wagon R has moved up the ranking by one nothch, but sold less. In March 2015, Maruti sold 15,198 units of the Wagon R.
2. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire
The second best selling car in India is a compact sedan, the Swift Dzire. When the Dzire was first launched, it did not appeal to many, but with the help of a few mods and upgrades over the years, the Dzire is the second best selling vehicle in India. In March 2016, Maruti Suzuki sold 17,796 units.
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto
The Alto still remains the champion of cars in India. Maruti Sold 22.101 units in March 2016, which is less compared to March 2015, because Maruti sold 24,961 units. Sales numbers are slowly shrinking and the Kwid is edging forward to the top of the list. Time will reveal the next best seller.
