Bajaj Auto is no more not just a motorcycle and three-wheeler maker. The company has been discreetly manufacturing robots too.
The third-largest motorcycle maker in the world has been occupied making hi-tech robots at its Akurdi facility, which are now being used at Bajaj Auto's assembly lines of Chakan plant.
Sources also suggest that the company is now looking for vendors who can supply components for them.
Bajaj Auto MD, Rajiv Bajaj, has built a world-class factory to make their motorcycles. All while producing motorcycles at very low prices.
Bajaj Auto has been working on its robotics for a while now. It currently operates close to 300 robots at its Chakan plant. A majority are the ones Bajaj has made on its own.
Bajaj joined hands with Universal Robots (UR), a start-up from Denmark, which helped them meet the requirements for flexibility, economically viability, and low running costs.
The company has already signed an agreement with Universal Robots to begin the assembling of the "Co-bot" robot in India.
The Co-bots that weigh just 5kg's are capable of welding, deburring, machine tending, bolt tightening, sealant application and many other things. The applications by the Co-bots has also been patented by Bajaj Auto.
Apart from the Co-bots, Bajaj will also use equal number of other robots of up to 50kg for other heavier operations.
