Dr Peter Mertens Appointed As Audi’s New R&D Chief

appointed
Dr
Peter
Mertens
as
its
new
Board
of
Management
Member
for
Technical
Development.
Mertens
was
previously
working
as
the
Senior
Vice
President
Research
&
Development
at
Volvo
Car
Corporation
in
Goteborg,
Sweden.
The Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, Rupert Stadler said, "Mertens has an exceptionally broad technical expertise and an international background in the automotive industry.
"These are ideal qualifications for him to make further progress with the Technical Development division at Audi."
Mertens' career in the automotive industry first started with Mercedes-Benz. Then, he passed through several management positions as of 1990.
After that, he was appointed as the Chief Executive of Tregaron Telematics GmbH, a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler Services AG and Deutsche Telekom AG in Bonn in 1996.
From there, Mertens moved to Adam Opel AG in 2002, first as executive director. In 2004, he got the responsibility of compact cars of General Motors Europe and for all General Motors' compact cars in 2005.
In 2010, he was appointed to the management board of Jaguar Land Rover. Later in 2011, Mertens was the Senior President Research & Development at Volvo Car Corporation.
