Nissan To Add Fire Power To The X-Trail — Think Diesel
Nissan Motor Co. is planning to introduce a powerful diesel engine for the X-Trail in 2017. The new diesel engine for the X-Trail will punch out 187bhp from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill. The update will include minor tweaks in the cabin and in technology.
Close on the heels of Skoda unveiling its flagship SUV Kodiaq, Nissan will be closing in on the Kodiaq with the powerful diesel engine and minor tweaks to keep the momentum of the X-Trail. The changes are expected to be seen in 2017.
The company wants to complement its range of 1.6-litre engine with the offering of the 2.0-litre mill.
Currently, the 2.0-litre engine is available on some of the markets; however, these need to be upgraded to Euro 6 or Bharat Stage VI.
Nissan X-Trail's most powerful engine is the 1.6-litre petrol engine which punches out 160bhp while the diesel 1.6-litre develops 128bhp.
The increase to 2.0-litre with 187bhp will definitely give the X-Trail a richer feel. The X-Trail's immediate rivals are the Hyundai Santa Fe and the upcoming Skoda Kodaiq.
The Santa Fe is powered by the 2.2-litre producing 194bhp, the Skoda Kodiaq can be spruced to 187bhp with the 2.0-litre engine from the launch.
Apart from the engine upgrade, the new X-Trail will getmid-life tweaks consisting of minor changes on the exterior and improvements in the cabin quality.
Also, expected is the semi-autonomous driving tech and probably top of the variant ‘Premium' that Nissan could offer in 2017.
As for India, Nissan might bring the new powerful diesel mill and we think it should as there are many offering in the same range. Hyundai is looking to launch the Santa Fe as well, hence Nissanbringing the diesel X-Trail to India will be a welcome.
