2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet Unveiled Ahead Of Debut
Audi’s second-generation A5 Cabriolet comes with a 248bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine
The Audi A5 Cabriolet has been unveiled ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show to be held on November 14, 2016.
The four-seater uses the same platform as its fixed-roof sibling, the recently launched A5 Coupe. The new generation A5 Cabriolet comes with an increased use of hot formed high strength steel and the MLB Evolution structure is claimed to provide better rigidity compared to the previous model.
With the new platform, it provides the new open top with more agility and greater levels of comfort than before.
The A5 Cabriolet shares its exterior cues from the A5 Coupe and the new cabriolet features a newly developed roof with one-touch automatic operation. The new automatic roof opens in a claimed 15 seconds and closes in 18 seconds at the speed of 50km/h.
Audi has developed the new A5 Cabriolet on the dimensions with 47mm longer than its predecessor. The wheelbase is increased by 14mm than the old generation model, this has increased the knee room for the rear passengers.
Also, the 2017 A5 Cabriolet comes with standard features such as automatic boot lid opener. This can either be operated via the remote button on the key fob or a button within the driver's door.
Optionally, buyers can opt for the gesture control function that can open the boot lid with a sensor detecting the movement of your foot underneath the rear bumper when the car is parked.
The new A5 Cabriolet will be sold with the same engine choices as the new A5 Coupe coupled with three different gearboxes and the choice of front- or four-wheel drive.
The first or the standard mill will be the 248bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine. Also, on the list is the 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine which can produce 187bhp, while the other diesel engine will be the 3.0-litre V6 punching out 215bhp.
Also to be seen are the 187bhp version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine and more powerful version of the turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine with 282bhp.
Depending on the engine the buyers choose, they will be able to choose between either a standard six-speed manual, seven-speed dual clutch or the eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
On the features and the interiors of the 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet which adopts the same dashboard and many of the same interiors featured in the latest A5 Coupe.
The customer though can choose a 12.3-inch high definition digital instrument display as well as head up display unit.
The new 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet has improved on the dimensions and on the features to give it a prominent makeover.
The smartphone interface integrates iOS and Android systems and the Audi phone box connects smartphones to the on-board antenna for better reception quality.
There is an optional LTE module providing access to online services, while a Wi-Fi hotspot connects to the internet.
The multi-media interface (MMI) touch connectivity packages features a 8.3 inch monitor with a resolution of 1024 x 480 pixels. This comes with DVD drive, 10 GB flash memory, two card readers and the AUX-in and USB connections.

It features the top-of-the-line Bang and Olufsen sound system which features a 755 watt amplifier, 19 speakers, 3D surround sound and two subwoofers improving the bass effect.
