2016 F1 Mexican GP Podium Fiasco & Battle Update
The battle between Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari continues at 2016 Mexican GP. Vettel, Ricciardo, and Verstappen were all called up by race direction due to their on-track antics in Mexico.
2016 Formula One paddock headed to Mexico over the weekend. All the drivers were looking forward to the Mexican GP as the layout and track nature is unique. The 2016 Mexican GP was filled with drama and tension all throughout the 70 laps.
As always, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg finished first and second with ease. Mercedes-AMG Petronas team looked in trouble during qualifying, however, both drivers displayed terrific race pace. Both drivers did not face any difficulty and cruised to the podium.
Main action and drama was unfolding for third place between Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen, and Daniel Ricciardo were involved fighting for a podium place in the closing stage of 2016 Formula One Mexican GP.
Verstappen was under immense pressure from Vettel who was on a lesser worn tyre. Ricciardo had the best tyres among the three and was most likely to win the podium battle. Vettel pressurised Verstappen to make an error, as he went off track and rejoined ahead of the Ferrari.
This angered Sebastian Vettel who dropped F-Bombs on the radio. Vettel was soon under pressure by Ricciardo and the former teammates touched. Fortunately, both drivers maintained their position and did not lose too much.
Race direction stepped into the matter and handed Verstappen a five-second penalty. This decision put Vettel on the podium. Surprisingly, race direction after the podium celebration announced their decision on the Vettel and Ricciardo clash, awarding the Red Bull driver third place.
