This Ferrari Might Become The World’s Most Expensive Car
The Ferrari 250 GTO built in 1962 is expected to fetch $55 million when it goes on auction
Looking for the most expensive car to buy? Then the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO might be the one for you. The Ferrari is on sale for a whopping $55 million.
Ferrari made just 39 models of the 250 GTO, a coupe capable of 160 mph (258 km/h) was built by the Italian luxury sports car maker between 1962 and 1964. The one which is on sale is the second Ferrari 250 GTO to go on sale after the first one was auctioned for $38.1 million.
So what makes this Ferrari 250 GTO special compared to the other 38 models? Well, this has a different colour. This is not the traditional Ferraris with red, it is a blue with racing stripes and when you compare it with the red one, this one stands out.
The decisive factors for the Ferrari 250 GTO to be auctioned at the most expensive price are its racing pedigree and the history of the car. Also, this model was the first to compete in a race.
The Ferrari 250 GTO achieved 17 podium finishes in 24 races it competed. Of the 39 built Ferrari 250 GTO, thirty-six featured a three-litre V12 engine and remaining three were featured with four-cylinders.
Talacrest, a classic Ferrari dealer based out of Ascot, southern England has offered the sale of the second Ferrari 250 GTO built with a publicly quoted price of $55 million.
The Talacrest Ferrari 250 GTO engine was replaced around 1964 and the body was restored in 1976-1977 according to John Collins, the founder of Talacrest.
As per Mr Collins, the Ferrari 250 GTO is an aluminium car and there is no soundproofing, also the engine sounds like a symphony.
