Toyota PR Head Arrested For Illegally Importing Drugs Into Japan
Toyota' Public Relations head, Julie Hamp has been arrested by the Japanese police for illegally importing drugs into Japan.
The drug, a painkiller Oxycodone was mailed from the United States to Narita Airport in Tokyo said the police.
Oxycodone is an addictive painkiller and also is a prescription drug in the United States. In Japan, only specially designated parties were allowed to import this drug.
Akio Toyoda, the Chief Executive of Toyota said, "What I can do now is to believe in my colleague and co-operate fully with the investigation. There was no intention on Ms Hamp's part to violate any law."
According to the health ministry, prior government approval is required by submitting an official prescription in order to import Oxycodone to Japan.
Hamp, who is 55 is currently the top most female executive with Toyota. She previously worked with General Motors for nearly twenty years and with Pepsico.
