The Top 10 Best Selling Cars For September. Is Your Car In This List?
Another month has passed in 2015 and more cars have been sold. A few new cars (Renault Kwid and Ford Figo) have been launched as well. But it's a little too early to rank these cars in terms of sales figures, as it has hardly been a month from the time of launch.
So, here are the top 10 selling cars for September 2015, compared to September 2014:
10. Honda Jazz:
The current hot hatch in India, the Jazz has managed to sell 4,762 units last month. Having been launched only a couple of months back, the Jazz wasted no time to make it to this list and has seen a slow drop in sales from the time it was introduced.
Jazz's on-road price starts at INR 5,75,365 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.5-litre Diesel engine (98 bhp, 200 Nm torque)
- 1.2-litre Petrol engine (87 bhp, 110 Nm torque)
It is available with a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
9. Honda City:
In the ninth place is another Honda-the City. 5,702 units have been sold in September 2015, compared to 4,600 units that were sold in September 2014. Also, compared to August 2015 sales, the city has sold more in September 2015.
City's on-road price starts at INR 8,32,583 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.5-litre petrol engine (117 bhp, 145 Nm torque)
- 1.5-litre diesel engine (99 bhp, 200 Nm torque)
It is available with a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
8. Honda Amaze:
The Amaze is a surprise. It previously was in the list but did not sell enough for a while in between. It has now made a good comeback, having sold 6,577 units, and also becoming the best selling Honda in September 2015. The Amaze was also the first Honda product with a diesel engine for India.
Amaze's on-road price starts at 5,60,096 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.2-litre petrol engine (87 bhp, 109 Nm torque)
- 1.5-litre diesel engine (99 bhp, 200 Nm torque)
It is available with a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
7. Maruti Suzuki Celerio:
The Celerio was just another hatch from Maruti Suzuki, untill the company debuted the AMT gearbox. This made the car very special and what made it even more special was the two-litre diesel engine that was developed in-house by the carmaker. The Celerio sold 8,901 units in September 2015, compared to 6,382 units in September 2014.
Celerio's on-road price starts at INR 4,15,154 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.0-litre petrol engine (67 bhp, 90 Nm torque)
- 800cc diesel engine (46 bhp, 125 Nm torque)
It is available with a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
6. Hyundai i20:
One of the best selling hatchbacks by Hyundai, and also, one of the best looking hatchbacks on sale presently. The Elite i20 has dropped a position in the list, in spite of selling more than last year, In September 2015, the South Korean carmaker sold 9,729 units, and in 2014 September, Hyundai sold 8,903 units of the i20.
i20's on-road price starts at INR 5,73,914 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.2-litre petrol engine (82 bhp, 115 Nm torque)
- 1.4-litre diesel engine (89 bhp, 220 Nm torque)
The i20 is offered only with a manual gearbox.
5. Hyundai Grand i10:
At number 5 is Hyundai again, with the Grand i10, having sold 11,258 units. During the same time a year ago, the Grand i10 sold 7,285 units. The hatchback has also moved one position up, compared to September 2014.

- 1.2-litre petrol engine (81 bhp, 114 Nm torque)
- 1.1-litre diesel engine (70 bhp, 160 Nm torque)
It is available with a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
4. Maruti Suzuki WagonR:
Retaining the 4th spot is the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, having sold 14,912 units. Compared to a year ago, sales figures have dropped, but it still maintains its position in the list of best selling cars in India.
Wagon R's on-road price starts at INR 3,99,764 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.0-litre petrol engine (67 bhp, 90 Nm torque)
The WagonR is offered only with a manual gearbox.
3. Maruti Suzuki Swift:
Again, another Maruti product that has retained its position. The Swift hatchback has managed to sell 18,278 units in September 2015, compared to 17,265 units sold in September 2014.
SWift's on-road price starts at INR 4,96,753 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.2-litre petrol engine (83 bhp, 114 Nm torque)
- 1.3-litre diesel engine (74 bhp, 190 Nm torque)
The Swift is offered only with a manual gearbox.
2. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire:
The Maruti Swift Dzire didn't quite click when it was launched initially. But after a facelift, the Dzire even went on to become the best selling car in India! In September 2015, the company managed to sell 19,682 units, compared to 18,185 units last year.
SWift Dzire's on-road price starts at INR 5,51,048 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 1.2-litre petrol engine (83 bhp, 115 Nm torque)
- 1.3-litre diesel engine (74 bhp, 190 Nm torque)
It is available with a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto:
It literally seems like nothing can beat the Alto sales in India. It has sold 20,658 units last month, while in September 2014, it sold 19,906 units. It is small, has decent power and most importantly, priced well. That's what makes the Alto a best seller in India.
Alto's on-road price starts at INR 2,66,530 (Delhi), and is offered with a choice of engines
- 0.8-litre petrol engine (48 bhp, 69 Nm torque)
The Alto is offered only with a manual gearbox.
One car that has the potential to dethrone the Alto is the Renault Kwid. It beats the Alto in terms of design, performance, efficiency and pricing.
