Team Orion Racing Wins JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge 2015
Over 900 engineering students from all over India participated in the JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge of 2015. It was contested in Coimbatore, India from 20th to 25th of January, 2015. This year 36 engineering colleges competed for top honours.
This year the students were judged by a panel of esteemed international judges. They were Felix Scherke, research Engineer at Daimler, Maria Bonilla-Torres, System Designer for Robert Bosch GmbH and Ian Thomas, who has a rich and vast experience in motorsports.
Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre and Industries Limited, commented, "JK Tyre has always been at the forefront of promoting tyre research and motorsport in India. With such a large young population and engineering talent, our country has the potential to excel in the global automotive engineering scene."
He further added, "Congratulations to Team Orion Racing for their excellent team work. It is very reassuring to see such professionalism and expertise among these young engineers. They surely have a bright future ahead."
This was the inaugural year of JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge. Standing third in the competition were Pravega Racing of VIT University and in second place were Team Formula Manipal of Manipal University. The winners of the 2015 challenge are Team Orion Racing India of KJ Somaiya College of Engineering from Mumbai.
The winners get an opportunity to spend an entire race weekend with race engineers fem JK Tyres. This will be a once in a lifetime moment and the engineering students will witness real action and experience in a race pit lane. JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge 2015 was organised by Delta Inc.
