Tata's Upcoming Compact SUV For India — What To Expect?
Tata Motors have provided the Nexon compact SUV with a codename — Osprey. The codename is derived from a carnivorous bird, which belongs to the North American Raptors family.
The Nexon Concept was showcased for the very first time at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi. Tata Motors is most likely to showcase the production-ready model at the 2016 Auto Expo.
For now, the details are limited, but we do know that this compact SUV is being developed on the same platform, which is used by the Tata Zest and Bolt.
Tata Motors could offer the Osprey in petrol and diesel, and could use the standard engine, i.e., 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine that currently powers the Bolt and Zest. There are also high chances of an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) variant being developed as well.
On the competition scale, the Osprey will compete with the likes of the Mahindra TUV300 and Ford EcoSport, and prices should start at Rs. 6.5 lakh ex-showroom onward. The Osprey is a sub 4-metre compact SUV and will make the most of the excise benefits on offer in the Indian market.
Expected launch: 2016-end or early-2017.
