India's largest manufacturer of automobiles, Tata Motors had displayed a wide range of products at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi. Out of all of them their close to production ready model was the Zest and Bolt. Both products garnered tremendous attention from the crowd.
Tata Motors have already launched their Zest compact sedan for Indian market. It was the first product from the manufacturer to feature an AMT diesel option. Now they will be launching their Bolt hatchback in India on the 22nd of January, 2015.
The Bolt has taken several design and technical cues from its older sibling, Zest compact sedan. It will sport several features and will the first in its segment. This hatchback is the pathway for Tata and their upcoming products of the future.
Tata Motors will be taking a giant leap of faith and will be launching their Bolt with a petrol engine. There are no talks of a diesel mill to be offered currently. A 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine will be doing duty under the hood. This engine will produce 89 bhp and 140 Nm of peak torque, and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
For the very first time an Indian hatchback will sport Multi-drive modes. Tata engineers have come up with an ingenious way for the ECU to change mapping of fuel on the fly. Drivers can now choose from SPORT, ECO and CITY. Each made has something special to offer and the name are suggestive to what they do.
We expect the Bolt from Tata Motors to be an instant hit just as it happened with their Zest offering. The manufacturer will be making sure that their Bolt will not be offered to fleet Taxi services, thus providing exclusivity to owners. We expect the hatchback to be launched with a price tag of 3,90,000 to 4,10,000 ex-showroom for its base model.
