Takata, the airbag manufacturer who has been in the news a little too frequently for airbag inflator issues, will be doubling its capacity to make airbag inflators over a period of the next six months.
Continuous testing for inflators that might explode with too much force is a constant process.
The Japanese airbag manufacturer, Takata said that it is expecting to produce about 900,000 replacement airbag inflators per month by September. The company currently produces 450,000 per month.
Takata made airbags had the threat of shooting shrapnel when the airbag is deployed, seriously hurting or even killing the occupant in the event of a crash.
Till date, there have been six deaths, more than a dozen injured and several lawsuits, all linking Takata airbag faults.
Honda, BMW, Ford, GM and Nissan are some of the manufacturers who use airbags supplied by Takata.
