Renault Working On 7-Seater Compact SUV For India
Renault is currently working on a 7-Seater compact SUV for the Indian market. Engineers will use the existing Captur model sold in international markets as a base. This new compact 7-seater by Renault will be introduced in several emerging markets across the globe.
The codename for this new project is ‘Renault HHA' and is expected to enter production by mid-2016. Renault, however, would bring this model to India only by Early 2017. So far, Renault has not provided its 7-seater compact SUV with a name.
In terms of engine, Renault will provide this new model with petrol and diesel engine options that exist under the hood of their Captur model. Both petrol and diesel engines will be offered in two performance variants. The engines will be mated to an optional manual or AMT gearbox.
The design of the new 7-seater compact SUV will be heavily inspired by the Renault Captur model. Front and rear design will be more or less identical, while from the side, the SUV will be a tad longer than the existing Captur model.
Once this new Renault 7-seater compact SUV is launched in India, it will face tough competition. Renault will have to compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV5OO and Tata's soon to be launched Hexa model.
Renault India will heavily localize this new product to achieve competitive pricing. The French carmaker would love to witness the same success achieved by the Duster and Kwid models in the country. Renault plans on making India its export hub and will be manufacturing the Kwid in India and offering it around the world. It will be interesting to see if they follow this trend with the 7-seater compact SUV.
