Toyota To Launch The All-New Prius In India By 2016-End
The new Toyota Prius is set to hit Indian shores by 2016-end; however, it could be showcased at 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. This is the fourth iteration of the Prius hybrid sedan and will replace the existing model in India.
Powering 2016 Toyota Prius is a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine. The engine delivers 97bhp and 142Nm of peak torque output. On the hybrid side is an electric motor, which provides additional 71bhp. Power is stored in a nickel-metal hydride battery pack.
Toyota promises that their petrol engine is more efficient than its predecessor. They have improved thermal efficiency by almost 40 percent with the new engine. 2016 Prius offers better fuel economy, owing to lower CO2 emissions over previous models.
2016 Prius is based on an all-new platform called TNGA, which is developed specially for this model. The frame is rigid by almost 60 percent over predecessor owing to, laser screw welding and strong adhesives. Boot space has also been improved and now will provide 502-litre storage capacity.
The fourth-generation Prius will be introduced in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). We expect pricing of the new Prius to be slightly higher than the outgoing model. Toyota is most likely to price the 2016 Prius around Rs. 35 lakh - Rs. 40 lakh ex-showroom in India.
Currently, Toyota offers only two hybrid models in the country: the Prius and Camry Hybrid. Toyota India has an impressive product portfolio and is constantly updating their stable with new products and model refreshes.
