MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo: Virtual Motorsport Values
Gran Turismo is one of the most popular racing simulators on the planet and has increasingly become a platform for carmakers to showcase design concepts and special editions. True to this trend, the MINI Design Team has created a virtual MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo concept for the sim for Playstation 3.
Vision Gran Turismo is the virtual celebration of the success and achievements of MINI in motorsport, and was designed to maximise racing performance in the sim. An incredible level of realism and detail have gone into development of the HD version of the Clubman, so let's take a closer look at the car.
As you can see, MINI has scarcely left any body panel untouched, and the front of the Clubman gets a serious reworking, with a huge carbon apron and extra ducting to lend it serious motor racing functionality. The grille gets a set of extra headlights, while the main headlamp consoles feature LED runners between the black ‘X' design, harking back to MINIs of yesteryear that had taped ‘X' markings on the headlights to prevent glass shattering and falling on to the track surface in the case of an impact. Also seen are retro-style upright wipers.
The side view shows off extensive bodywork remodelling, with powerful, clear lines and super-aggressive contours resulting in a three-dimensional effect. The strong, road-hugging profile reflects the high-performance capability of the 395 hp, sequentially-geared virtual machine. It needed to be, with the Vision Gran Turismo capable of 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, all the way up to a top speed of 290 km/h, depending on gearbox ratios.
Gamers will get used to the super-aggressive rear section design, with a huge diffuser, wide wheel arches and extra air vents that form a cohesive end to the all-round performance-oriented styling. You can still see the split tailgate of the original version, albeit running only up to the rear fender. Not sure about the twin roof spoilers though...
The MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo can be customised with a choice of five colour options. In addition, the colour combinations of the racing stripes and pinstripe accents can be varied as well.
We can't wait to get our hands on a controller...
