Maruti Suzuki is now offering the Swift hatchback and the Swift Dzire compact sedan with airbags and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as a standard feature, across all the variants.
With other manufacturers like Ford, Volkswagen, and Toyota offering airbags as a standard safety feature, it is about time Maruti Suzuki did the same. The Maruti Suzuki Swift Hatchback was in the news earlier after it failed crash tests.
The crash test was conducted by Global New Car Assessment Program (Global NCAP) and the Swift failed the crash test, due to the lack of airbags. The Swift scored zero for adult occupant safety and one star for child protection during a crash.
Maruti Suzuki retaliated saying the Swift has met Indian crash test norms, which is not even a compulsion. Officials also defended saying the crash tests were conducted at higher speeds (64km/h).
