The Ignis compact crossover was showcased at 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Maruti Suzuki will showcase this model at 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. They also plan on exporting the Ignis to several other markets and on the top-of-the-list is Germany.
Previously, Suzuki showcased the Ignis crossover as the iM-4 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The Baleno premium hatchback was showcased at Geneva Motor Show as well as the iK-2 concept. Both models are based on Suzuki's lightweight construction platform.
Powering the Ignis crossover will be a petrol engine with manual and CVT gearbox options. Suzuki will also be offering its customers the option between the 4-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive.
Suzuki has made their intentions clear of making India its global manufacturing hub. Germany is most likely to get the Baleno and Ignis models during 2016. The Ignis will be a sub 4-metre vehicle and is expected to be hugely popular in several markets
Several new models from Suzuki will be manufactured in India and exported to international markets. India is most likely to see the production version of Ignis before any other market. Recently, Suzuki has unveiled several global products in India prior to other markets.
