Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 13th Edition Commences From Delhi
Japanese automobile giant, Maruti Suzuki has commenced its 13th edition of Desert Storm rally. There are four main categories participants can compete in XTreme, NDure, Xplore and Moto Quad. The flag off took place in Delhi on 23rd of February, 2015.
CS Santosh who is the defending champion in Moto category will also take part in Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm rally. He is also the only Indian so far to have participated and completed the Dakar Rally, onboard KTM machinery. He will be riding a Suzuki RMX450 and is most likely to retain his title.
The rally covers 2,300 kilometres in 2015 Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm. Participants will have to conquer rough terrain, sand dunes and occasionally will witness the scenic side of Rajasthan as well. It is considered as one of the greatest events in India among motorsports. This year participants will have to pass through Sardarshahar, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and finally Jaipur.
Manohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India commented, "Thanks to this project, many more Japanese people will travel to Gujarat. Let us deepen friendship and mutual understanding between India and Japan."
He also said, "Maruti Suzuki encourages motorsports enthusiasts from all over the country and abroad to test their skills. The rally has various formats suited for amateurs and professionals. The competition would be as intense as ever and both, man and machine would be tested to the limits."
Competing this year will nine time Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya and three time Desert Storm winner, Suresh Rana. He will be competing in a Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in the XTreme category. This year the organisers have opted for a more difficult route to challenge the competitors.
