Maruti Suzuki launches the much awaited premium hatchback—the Baleno; prices of this premium hatchback start from Rs. 4.99 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The Baleno will be the second product that Maruti Suzuki will sell through its Nexa outlets, and will also be the first Indian made car by the company that will be sold in Japan.

The Maruti Baleno is offered with two engine options: petrol and diesel. The engines are the same units that power the Swift, but retuned to perform better in the Baleno. The diesel motor is a 1248cc, four-cylinder engine that produces 74bhp and 192Nm of torque, while the 1197cc, four-cylinder petrol engine produces 83bhp and 115Nm of peak torque.
Both engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Baleno Delta petrol variant is also offered in a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) option. As claimed by Maruti Suzuki, the Baleno will return fuel efficiency figures of 21.4kpl with the petrol, and 27.39kpl with the diesel variant.
Features such as DRLs with LED, alloy wheels, navigation system, voice command, Apple CarPlay, and reverse parking camera are available on the top-of-the-line variant.
Maruti Suzuki has taken a big step forward in terms of safety, and now offers the Baleno with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and dual airbags as standard across all the variants.
