Maruti Baleno Optional Diesel Engine Could Be Introduced
Maruti Suzuki introduced its Baleno premium hatchback in October 2015. The Baleno was the second product to be offered through their new, exclusive, and premium dealership outlets, 'Nexa'. So far, the Baleno has received decent response among buyers and has raked up over 40,000 bookings.
Currently, Baleno premium hatchback is powered by a 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. The petrol and diesel engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT option is available with the petrol engine.
At this moment, the diesel engine under Baleno's hood produces 73.9bhp. The diesel engine is sourced from Fiat, who also offer a more powerful engine variant. Maruti Suzuki is looking at options to introduce the 89bhp or the 200 DDiS option with Fiat's 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine.
There is a high possibility that Maruti Suzuki would offer both variants alongside. The Baleno premium hatchback will be offered with a conservative and performance engine tune option. Customers can choose which engine option suits their driving needs.
In India, the Baleno by Maruti Suzuki competes with the likes of Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20. Maruti Suzuki has priced its premium hatchback extremely competitively in the Indian market. The Baleno will be introduced in several international markets and will be exported out of India.
