Mahindra has officially named its upcoming S101 compact SUV as the KUV100. Pronounced as the KUV one double 'oh', the K stands for 'Kool', while the UV represents the SUV segment, and the '100' marks the vehicle's order, which is below the XUV500 and the TUV300.
Powering the new KUV100 will be Mahindra's new 1.2-litre mFALCON engines, that are available in petrol and diesel variants. The petrol engine will produce 82bhp and 114Nm of torque while the diesel engine will produce 77bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both engines have been tuned to deliver good low-end torque.
The petrol engine will be Mahindra's first engine to be built from ground up. The engines were showcased during the official 'naming' ceremony.
The KUV100 will be targeted towards youngsters and first time car buyers. The Mahindra KUV100 has been designed in house and engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.
Booking for the KUV100 will begin on December 19, 2015, and the compact SUV will be launched on January 15, 2016. The KUV100 will have ABS as a standard feature, and will be available in seven colours: Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Designer Grey, and Midnight Black.
