Mahindra S101 compact SUV will be powered by an all-new 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine. These engines are being domestically manufactured by Mahindra engineers. Production of the new 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines have commenced on November 6, 2015.
Performance figures of the new 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine were not revealed. The S101 compact SUV will be tuned more like a regular car, as it would spend most of its time in the urban environment. The driving dynamics as well will be focused for city driving conditions.
At a press meet with Pawan Goenka, Executive Director of Mahindra Automobile, the launch date of the S101 was revealed. Mahindra promises to launch its new compact SUV in the country before the end of this financial year, that is March 2016.
The S101 will not have a ladder chassis and will use a modern monocoque construction. This will be Mahindra's second Utility Vehicle (UV) to sport a monocoque construction. Currently, Mahindra offers the XUV5OO with a monocoque construction.
Mahindra is positive that new products in the Indian market will boost their sales further. The S101 will be Mahindra's second compact SUV to be introduced in India, and they plan on introducing both, TUV3OO and S101 models in international markets as well.
We can expect Mahindra's S101 compact SUV to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The vehicle could be launched within a few months from the reveal. Mahindra has promised to launch six new products and so far, they have launched the new Scorpio, XUV5OO, TUV3OO and the Supro. Two new products remain and will be introduced before the financial year comes to an end.
