Export Market: Mahindra Quanto Gets A New 2.2-litre Engine
Mahindra Quanto gets an all-new engine; however, it will not be introduced in the Indian market. This new engine in the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) is being exported to Italy. No design updates have been provided to the Quanto.
The Quanto for the Italian market will be powered by a 2.2-litre, four cylinder, mHawk diesel engine. This new engine produces 118.35bhp, along with 280Nm of torque. Mahindra has mated this engine to a 5-speed manual gearbox that delivers power to all four wheels.
Surprisingly, Mahindra is not manufacturing the new engine and transmission in India. Both key elements in the Quanto are being manufactured by AVL, which is an Austrian manufacturer set up in Europe. Mahindra is using this route to enable a competitive pricing for Quanto.
Currently in India, Mahindra offers the Quanto with a 1.5-litre, three cylinder, diesel engine. Power is delivered to the rear wheels, and the engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
At this moment, the Quanto is not selling volumes as expected and we expect a facelifted version of the Quanto soon. The 2016 Quanto could receive significant design updates, along with new engine options. Mahindra is expected to introduce several new products for the Indian market as well as international markets. Next in line is the a new compact SUV, which is dubbed as the S101 model.
