Customers will also get incentives on purchasing such electric and hybrid vehicles.
Maharashtra however, could get around 50 electric or hybrid public transports buses this year by December. These electric or hybrid buses will be plying in different cities if things go according to plan.
Ambuj Sharma, the Additional Secretary, department of heavy industries, in a meeting of automobile companies and technology developers for electric and hybrid vehicles at ARAI said that they are on talks with municipal corporations and the state transport corporation to introduce eco-friendly buses for public transport.
ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) is also assisting the ministry with Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India.
The department of heavy industries has already approved a few projects under which 25 hybrid buses will be bought by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA).
