Lexus ES & RX Models To Be Introduced In India By Toyota AS CKD Units
Lexus is the luxury brand from Toyota and is offered in several countries, except India. The Japanese automobile manufacturer is most likely to enter the Indian market by 2016. Initially, Lexus will introduce two models via the Toyota network across the country.
The ES luxury sports sedan and the RX luxury crossover model from Lexus will be launched first. Both models will be placed above Toyota's Camry which is sold in India as their premium product. Toyota will launch the Lexus brand by mid-2016 and is expected to showcase both models at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Toyota plans on introducing the Lexus brand in India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. A separate assembly line is expected to be setup, which will take care of Lexus products exclusively. Lexus assembly line will be introduced within Toyota's Karnataka facility.
Internationally, both Lexus ES and Lexus RX models are available in a variety of engine options. We expect the manufacturer to offer a single engine option and based on the demand they could introduce more options to customers. Both models are powered by optional petrol or hybrid engine options.
Lexus brand from Toyota will compete with established luxury car makers in the Indian market. The Japanese luxury automobile brand will have to face the German trio of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz in the country. Pricing is expected to be on par with the German luxury car makers.
