Jaguar Confirms Formula E Participation With Williams Support
Jaguar confirms that it will return to racing in 2016. The British marque will compete in the FIA Formula E Championship 2016-2017 season. The Formula E Championship will test Jaguar's current technology that could be applied to its future products.
Williams Advanced Engineering will be technical partner for Jaguar's Formula E project. Jaguar developed the C-X75 hybrid supercar with engineering inputs from Williams Advanced Engineering. Williams Racing is also part of Formula One and has tons of experience in racing.
Jaguar will be entering the Formula E Championship as a complete factory outfit. The manufacturer will be replacing Trulli Racing Team in Formula E, who are part of the 2015-2016 Championship. Unfortunately, Trulli Racing Team had a disastrous start and had not participated in the opening rounds.
So far, drivers have not been announced for Jaguar's Formula E team. Currently, only nine teams compete in Formula E, as Trulli Racing has withdrawn its participation. There is a high possibility that Jaguar could retain drivers from Trulli Racing Team.
James Barclay will act as Jaguar Team Director and will be accompanied by Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director, Jaguar Land Rover. The Managing Director of Williams Advanced Engineering, Craig Wilson will take on the role of Race Director within Jaguar Formula E team.
Jaguar realises that electric vehicles are the future of mobility. The British automobile brand is confident that the automotive world will witness tremendous change. It is expected that new technology and innovation will be introduced within the next five years than the world witnessed in the last 30 years.
