Indian Govt To Scrap 125 Toll Plazas By Month End
The Indian government has announced that it will scrap 125 toll plazas throughout India by the end of this month.
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said, "We will cancel toll at around 125 plazas on some highways by the end of this month."
Nitin Gadkari said that about 65 toll plazas have already stopped collecting fees already. The government is also planning to make Indian road projects toll free.
The electric toll that was introduced few months ago will help save INR 88,000 crore and will also cut waiting time at toll plazas significantly.
A study showed that INR 60,000 crore was lost at toll plazas due to various delays, while INR 88,000 crore can be saved with electronic toll collection.
Nitin Gadkari said that out of 350 toll plazas on the Mumbai-Delhi highway, 140 have been converted to e-toll points.
Indian Highways Management Company Limited, a new company has been established to implement electronic tolls across the country.
